What HS Code Fix can't do
Read this before relying on it. Plain answers, no fine print.
- It does not classify goods for you legally. Every HS code it shows is a suggestion. You, the shipper, are responsible for the code on your customs form. If a product is unusual, high-value or regulated, ask a customs broker.
- 6 digits only. It writes the international 6-digit HS code. It does not add the extra national digits (US 10-digit HTS, EU 8-digit CN, UK 10-digit). Shopify and most carriers only need 6.
- Suggestions come from the product title and description. A vague title ("Bundle #3") gets a vague or wrong suggestion. Fix the title first.
- It validates against the US tariff list. The first 6 digits are the same worldwide, but the app cannot confirm a code is correct for your specific product — only that it exists.
- Country of origin is never guessed. Only you know where a product was made. The app shows the gap; you fill it.
- Weight is never guessed for the same reason.
- Large catalogs are scanned in batches. Over about 5,000 products, a full scan can take several minutes and AI suggestions are capped per day on the Pro plan (the cap is shown in the app).
- Undo covers the app's own changes only. If you or another app edit a field afterwards, undo restores the app's last value, not theirs.
- No storefront changes, no checkout changes, no duty calculation. It fixes catalog data. Duties and taxes at checkout are Shopify Managed Markets or your carrier.
